Hello, I'm Becky!
Ever since a young age, I have always been a creative individual, yet never considered becoming a Graphic Designer until later on in life. It was only when I was studying A-Level Media, when I was producing a DVD cover that I acknowledged my keen interest in design.
For seven years, from 2012 to 2019, I periodically worked as a Lighting Designer for several bands, which sparked my interest in behind-the-scenes aspects, in particular, the design and creation of marketing materials for the arts sector. My design career began by producing the likes of posters and business cards for family and friends.
In 2017, I began studying Media and Communication at Birmingham City University, with the initial intention to study Television and Radio. However, I decided to switch my Television module to Visual Communication which I believe was the best decision I could have made. My interest in design and technology has also extended into my academic work and research reports where I have investigated various areas including New Media, Social Media and Fandoms where I have focussed on YouTubers and the community aspect in particular.
With one element of the course being to obtain work experience, I combined my passions of graphic design and theatre and fortunately obtained experience at both Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and Central Youth Theatre (CYT). I worked with CYT throughout 2018 and 2019 designing programmes, flyers and posters as well as managing their social media platforms.
In mid 2019, I decided to try freelancing and established 'Becky Clee Design'. I have since had the opportunity to utilise my skills and put my industry knowledge intro practice by working on a range of projects and company rebrands which included producing websites, business cards, flyers and social media content.
At this moment in time, I am currently developing my signature flat art style, yet I am also able to adapt to other styles or requirements depending on the client's brief. Furthermore, inspired by my interest in photography and Instagram as you will see below, I completed my dissertation in May 2020 which explored Instagram as a platform and the attention economy it has created. In July 2020, I graduated from Birmingham City University with a First Class Honours Degree in Media and Communication.
I am always actively seeking to gain as much design experience as possible and appreciate any opportunities that arise. For more information, please click here to view and download my CV.
